Hawai’i wins its 51st consecutive set, BYU, Stanford get upsets

There were three collisions in the AVCA top 15 on Saturday. Undefeated No. 2 Hawai’i kept things rolling, sweeping No. 12 CSUN again to extend its consecutive win streak to 51. It was also a good night to be home as there were two significant MPSF upsets as No. 8 Stanford defeated No. 4 UCLA in five sets at Maples Pavilion, and No. 9 BYU upset No. 6 Pepperdine at the Smith Fieldhouse. Alexander: Big West Tournament teams’ urgency produces better show

Both games in Thursday’s afternoon session went down to the wire. No. 7 seed CSUN gave up 19 straight points to No. 2 UC Santa Barbara in the first half, but fought back to lead midway through the second half and was within a point with 19.6 seconds left on Rodney Harrison Jr.’s 3-pointer. The Matadors had the ball and a chance to tie at the end, but Terrell Gomez’s 3-point attempt failed to fall and UCSB survived 71-68. -- Los Angeles Daily News
