Both games in Thursday’s afternoon session went down to the wire. No. 7 seed CSUN gave up 19 straight points to No. 2 UC Santa Barbara in the first half, but fought back to lead midway through the second half and was within a point with 19.6 seconds left on Rodney Harrison Jr.’s 3-pointer. The Matadors had the ball and a chance to tie at the end, but Terrell Gomez’s 3-point attempt failed to fall and UCSB survived 71-68.
