Alexander: Here’s to the NCAA teams that should have been able to celebrate

We could have been watching UC Irvine’s return to the men’s tournament as Big West champion, after not only getting to the Dance a year ago but knocking off Kansas State to get to the second round. Or maybe it would have been a dark horse like CSUN, which was led by two-time Big West Player of the Year Lamine Diane and had won six of its last eight to move into the No. 2 seed for the conference tournament. -- Los Angeles Daily News

Commentary: 2020 Spring Season Cancelled by NCAA is NOT the New Normal

The Big West was shaping up for a great season of competition. Just last weekend, Cal State Northridge took UCSB to overtime before falling, while Long Beach State held off newcomer UCSD in a low scoring battle. UCI picked off California last week to go 2-1 against the Bears in 2020 and was set to square off with UCLA this coming weekend before mass cancellations. -- Swimming World Magazine

No time for fun and games

With the College World Series and men’s volleyball final four among the events also being nixed, it meant the abrupt end to UH’s men’s volleyball and baseball seasons. The volleyball Warriors were set to play road matches against Cal State Northridge on Friday and Saturday. A day after the Chicago State baseball team arrived in Honolulu for this weekend’s series, the Cougars learned their own league, the Western Athletic Conference, also canceled the spring sports seasons. -- Honolulu Star Advertiser

And Now, Silence: NCAA, Big Ten Decisions End Iowa's Seasons

The baseball team was 10-5 after two home wins over Kansas this week and was scheduled to play a three-game series at Cal State-Northridge this weekend. Iowa's softball team was 17-5 and was scheduled to play in the University of South Florida tournament this weekend. -- Sports Illustrated

Tourney hopes end for UCR, CBU men’s basketball teams

At the same time, Patrick understood and readily accepted the decision. Earlier Thursday morning, he talked to Cal State Fullerton coach Dedrique Taylor, probably his best friend among his fellow Big West coaches. Both agreed that they shouldn’t be playing if everyone else wasn’t. Taylor and the No. 7-seeded Titans were set to open the tournament at noon against Cal State Northridge. -- Riverside Press-Enterprise
