The Residence Halls Association (RHA) is an organization with the goal of promoting a healthy academic and social environment while serving as the student voice for concerns of the community in CSUN Student Housing. RHA provides engaging programs for students to get involved, and hosts regular community meetings to discuss concerns and suggestions.

Park Council Directors (PCDs) are RHA members and selected leaders for each of the residential communities (Park North, Park South, Park East, Park West, Suites North, Suites South, and the University Village Apartments). Park Council Directors act as liaisons between the residential community, and the Student Housing staff. They meet weekly with the Residence Halls Association (RHA) executive board to discuss program and student concerns. Resident Advisors have many different roles. They are peer counselors, community builders, programmers and administrators. RAs spend a significant amount of time getting to know residents as individuals and generating enthusiasm as they bring students together to create floor and hall communities.

As residence hall community leaders, RAs encourage residents to respect one another, get involved with floor, hall and area activities and provide information about campus resources.

Latinas Rising is an affinity group that advances the university’s retention and graduation goals by providing events, programs and an engaged community to support and empower Latinas and other students to strive academically and socially while living at CSUN Student Housing. The group serves as a social and educational space for Latina and allied students, where they have the opportunity to participate in programs catered specifically to their needs and interests.

The Black Male Initiative Organization is a mentorship based program designed to motivate and support academic success for minority male students on the CSUN campus. The program was created to specifically address the growing concern for African American men’s declining college enrollment, academic disengagement, academic underachievement, and overall low rate of baccalaureate degree completion at California State University, Northridge. It is important to note that this program, and the university at large, recognize other ethnic groups and genders who also struggle with academic difficulties but the African American Male student population, unfortunately, reflect the lowest statistics, nationally, (at this time) across all other racial groups and genders. Thus, additional creative intervention is needed to address this unique trend among African American men. Based on the current trend of an academic struggle for African American men on this campus (as reflected across the country) CSUN administration expressed a concern, which resulted in the proactive recommendation for the construction and ongoing development of CSUN programs to address the current problem on this campus by exploring the underlying complexity of this trend. The university desires to generate relevant programming in an attempt to reverse this growing and alarming condition on the CSUN campus.

The specific goal of this mentor-based program is to apply positive anti-deficit models and research-based intervention to build a viable foundation for academic success and to enable strong character development to produce quality men who will contribute to our communities around the country and to our society at large.

We Are Pride is a peer-led discussion group in Student Housing that serves students who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and/or asexual (LGBTQIA), and allied students. Our discussions largely focus on building community, talking about our college experiences as LGBTQIA students, and learning about the many resources CSUN and the surrounding Los Angeles area offer LGBTQIA youth.

Black Girl Magic strives to build a stronger community between African American, African, Black women, and allied students at CSUN. BGM focuses on relevant topics and issues within the Black community, both at CSUN and globally. CSUN Student Housing residents and non-residents are welcome to attend.

First to Go is a peer support group in Student Housing that serves students who identify as the first generation in their families to attend college. If your parents/guardians do not have a four-year degree, you are considered first-generation. This group focuses on specific challenges first-generation students face at CSUN and how we can work together to navigate the highs and lows that college has to offer.

CSUN Hood Scholars affinity group strives to empower and build a community and support system with and for students from the hood navigating higher education. Our peer-led discussions and events largely focus on what it means to be born and raised in the hood, the experiences of navigating multiple identities, and motivate hood scholars to reach their academic goals and take pride in their community.

The Asian/Pacific Islander (API) Advocates Affinity Group is a student-initiated, peer-led discussion group that serves students who identify as Asian and/or Pacific Islander.  Our discussions cover the API identity where we further explore each other’s culture and personal experiences.  This space is meant to be a brave space for learning and sharing the important aspects of your identity, and we strive to foster a strong community of API CSUN students.

Hombres Redefined is a group designed to create a communal space for Latino-identifying men to share their experiences, deconstruct stereotypes, and build a community for those navigating the challenges that come from higher education. Our main objective is to provide programs, events, and discussions that will support and uplift the educational experiences for Latino-identifying males at CSUN, resulting in their retention and eventual graduation.

Across the Globe is a student lead affinity group that strives to bridge the gap between education and cultural identity. This organization builds community in housing by hosting events that prioritize the richness of culture and heritage. Across the Globe accepts all CSUN Housing residents of various backgrounds and identities.

The village people is an affinity group that will provide a welcoming, beautiful, and peaceful environment in the village community. We value community, collaboration, diversity, and inclusion.
