The Vestibular Modality gives us our sense of position in space (relative to gravity), and an awareness of change in body momentum.
It's the modality we indulge when we go to modern amusement parks which have those devilish machines that spin you, drop you, rotate you and move you in three directions almost at once!
The transducer is composed of the three semi circular canals.
A set of each is located in the temporal bone on each side of the head. They are actually connected to the inner ear so that the fluid that runs in one also runs in the other.
This connection is somewhat responsible for the high incidence of balance problems for people having a hearing loss.
When this transducer is disrupted, the result can be hopeless vertigo.
