Descriptions of sites can be found by clicking on the map. Please note that access to study sites requires permission since all sites are on private land. In Maine, private landowners own the intertidal zone, which is defined as the area between the mean high tide mark and the mean low tide mark. The only public easement is for fishing, fowling and navigation. For more information on beach access in Maine, see: http://www.maine.gov/spo/mcp/projects/getting_to_shore.php
