LC (Long Cove) is on the north side of Long Cove, which is a small narrow cove on the eastern side of Burnt Coat Harbor. LC faces to the south and is very protected by the eastern edge of Burnt Coat Harbor and Harbor Island, which is to the south. The intertidal zone is a narrow (20-30 m) cobble and boulder field at the base of steep incline. The cobbles and boulders extend into the subtidal zone. The mid zone is dominated by Ascophyllum and the low zone by barnacles and mussels.
Picture above : Looking to the west at sunrise. The Long Cove site is just beyond the quarry pond, which is an abandoned granite quarry. The spill of the quarry is the granite slope in the background. The buildings in the background are the Minturn town wharf and are washed out from the rising sun. Photo taken 5 May 2004.
