Dick's is in Burnt Coat Harbor and faces to the west. The intertidal zone is composed of isolated ledges and boulders that are surrounded by muddy patches. Sedimentation is common, and while Ascophyllum is the most common species, it is not as dense as at other sites. Mussels are common on the mud flats below the mid zone. Barnacles are rare. The site was named after Dick Jellison, who gave us permission to cross his property to reach the site. The property is now a public park (Mill Pond Park).
Picture above : Standing near the 8 m clearing and looking south. The small island with trees is at the entrance to the Mill Pond. The zero control plot is just beyond the spruce trees. The Burnt Coat Harbor lighthouse is visible in the background with Harbor Island beyond it. Photo taken 5 May 2004
