Compare Pat Conroy’s essay "My Heart’s Content," the advertisements for the military in Convergences, and websites like goarmy.com with one of the following movies: Stripes or Private Benjamin or Catch 22.

• What similarities do you find in these texts in terms of the way the military is portrayed? What differences?
• Would you classify any of what you have encountered as propaganda? Why or why not?
• How can you account for the differences and/or similarities?
