Sawyer Gletscher with a whaler from a NOA research ship
we spent several hours in Tracy Arms Fjord because the ship had to travel super slow to make its way through the icefield without mishap.
Although we moved very slow, the trip was never boring because there was always something interesting to see, even if it was only a waterfall or a distant glacier:
The pictures below show icebergs close to the ship. The don't look too big, but we were on the 11th floor and if one considers that about 90% of an iceberg is below water, it becomes obvious that ramming one of them at speed could cause a bit of damage!

As usual, the scenery was spectacular
Since we were one of the first (if not THE first) ships of teh season, we were alone in Tracy Arms Fjord, as can be seen on this picture. Normally one can see not only icebergs and mountains but other cruise ships. The pictures below show icebergs close to the ship. The don't look too big, but we were on the 11th floor and if one considers that about 90% of an iceberg is below water, it becomes obvious that ramming one of them at speed could cause a bit of damage! It was quite exciting to watch how the ship carefully manoeuvered to avoid hitting one of the ice bergs.
Here it becomes obvious that the number of icebergs increases, the closer we came to the glacier and thus we had to turn around before we got close to the glacier - it was getting too dangerous: Next stop: Prince Rupert, British Columbia
