What is FacDev Commons?
FacDev Commons is an innovative space serving CSUN faculty, which opened in spring 2024! Experiences in FacDev Commons are aligned with FacDev’s mission to support faculty in their teaching, scholarship, service and leadership journeys.
Where is FacDev Commons?
FacDev Commons is located on the Garden Level of University Library (UL) in Room UL 3.
What happens in FacDev Commons?
Faculty build community with each other and engage with the space by learning and innovating together, creating ideas with others, supporting each other, working on their own projects, and focusing on their wellbeing by resting and relaxing.
- Faculty Development will host in-person and HyFlex programs in the space. This includes workshops, faculty learning communities, consultations and keynote presentations.
- Departments can reserve the space for meetings and retreats. If you are coordinating a meeting and would like to reserve the entire space, please complete this request form. Please email facdev@csun.edu if you have any questions about reserving the space.
- Faculty members can use the space during FacDev Lounge Hours in an informal way, such as to grade papers, eat lunch, chat with colleagues, have meetings with a small group, or simply rest and relax.
The furniture is designed to be easily moved so the room can be used for different purposes, including lounge hours, learning communities, presentations, and conferences.
This is a new space, and we want to get input from faculty to help us ensure that it meets your needs. Please take a few moments to complete this short form if you have ideas you want to share with us.

Do I need to make a reservation if I want to have a meeting with a couple of colleagues?
No. If you don’t need to reserve the entire space and don’t need a private meeting room, you can stop by during FacDev Lounge Hours to use the space. During FacDev Lounge Hours, the space is used on a first-come, first-served basis, so a table for a meeting can’t be guaranteed. However, make sure you check the FacDev Calendar first because it might be booked for special events.
Can I use FacDev Commons to have lunch with my colleagues?
Yes! Please use this space during FacDev Lounge Hours for getting together to chat over lunch. However, make sure you check the FacDev Calendar first because it might be booked for special events.
Can I use FacDev Commons for my office hours with students?
No. The space is designed for faculty to connect with other faculty; we are unable to accommodate meetings with students.
