CSU Quality Learning and Teaching (QLT) Courses

⭐️ Upcoming OCS Training Opportunities

Training Programs from the CSU Chancellor's Office Online Course Services:

Online Course Services (OCS) at the Chancellor's Office offers free courses to help faculty enhance their online teaching including how to use the Quality Learning & Teaching framework, which we have adopted here at CSUN. These courses are offered once every semester for tenure-track faculty and lecturer faculty in the 23 CSU campuses. 

These training courses are 3-weeks in length, online, asynchronous, and require 15-20 hours with a structured course schedule and due dates that must be followed.

Below are the dates for current courses that CSUN faculty are eligible to take. These courses are facilitated by external staff within the CSU system. 

Sessions:

  • Cycle 1: Oct. 7 – 27, 2024
  • Cycle 2: Nov. 4 - 24, 2024


 


Oct 07 – Oct 27  | Nov 4 – Nov 24:  Introduction to Teaching Online Using QLT 

Introduction to teaching online with the CSU QLT rubric. Content covered includes orienting students to the online course, setting up the structure and navigation, designing
online modules for content delivery and engagement, developing discussions, developing assessment tools, and using technology tools.

Oct 07 – Oct 27: Advanced QLT Course in Teaching Online

Advanced QLT course in creating a course and module structure that is in alignment with course objectives, incorporates social presence, equity-minded strategies, engagement strategies in synchronous and asynchronous activities, active learning with video, and alternative assessments.Participants will complete a QLT Core-24 self review on their own course and the final project will include creating a video tour to highlight three course changes. Note: having a partially or fully developed online/hybrid course is required prior to registration.

Oct 07 – Oct 27  | Nov 4 – Nov 24: AI Tools for Teaching and Learning

Learning: Introduction to Artificial Intelligence tools where guided experimentation empowers participants to understand some of the basics of AI functionality, including its workings and methods for detecting its usage. Learn basic AI terminology, engage in hands-on exploration of AI Tools, learn strategies for detecting AI-generated content, and techniques to address potential misuse of AI tools by students and participants will apply the knowledge gained to develop a personalized AI use policy for their course.

Not offered this semester: Reviewing Courses Using the QLT Rubric

Ideal if you have prior knowledge and familiarity with QLT and plan to review courses seeking QLT certification. Participants will engage in hands-on experiences using the QLT objectives to rate elements of a sample course, learn how to write helpful recommendations, and discuss examples for setting up a peer-review process on their campus.
