For NSF Teacher Fellows to Obtain Your $1800 Stipends:

(1) 120 Hours research: Complete a minimum of 120 hours of research at times mutually agreeable between teacher and mentor

(2) Implementation meetings & projects: Participate in implementation meetings with Dr. Norm Herr

(3) Post plans on the newsgroup: Post summaries of your research proposal and implmentation plans on the NSF website.

(4) Final Project Report: Submit hard copy to Dr. Oppenheimer (science 2005) of your FINAL PROJECT REPORT and Implementation or implementation plans signed and approved by your scientist mentor that includes your name, home mailing address, social security number and:

This should be done in scientific journal style and also posted on the NSF WebSite with the assistance of Dr. Norm Herr, who will help you with the paper at his Web Meetings.

1)Summary or Abstract: 1 page
2) Introduction: 2 pages, including references to the literature.
This section should briefly discuss your project hypothesis and
some reference to past work in the area.
3) Methods and Materials. 2-3 pages. Detail EXACTLY what you did.
4) Results/Most Important/ 2-3 written pages PLUS as many graphs,
photos, tables, etc. as you like. What exactly did your experiments
show? MANY REPLICATE SAMPLES AND APPROPRIATE CONTROLS AND
QUANTITATIVE ANALYSIS MAKE FOR THE BEST REPORTS.
5) Discussion and conclusions. 2-3 pages. Explain what your results
mean and how they fit into the history of past work in the field.
Use references.
6) References Cited. Detailed Bibliography.

COURSE CREDIT: 3 units of University Credit (Biology 699C) will be available (Fall 2002 Semester) at about $80/unit (paid by you; this is a special reduced rate) for those teachers who want it. Requirements are the same as for the $1800 stipend.

RECOMMENDED, NOT REQUIRED: To get a NSF Certificate of Recognition, that will be probably signed by Nobel Laureate Francis Crick, in addition to the requirements above you need to: implement student research in your classes, submit at least one student co-authored research abstract for the JOURNAL OF STUDENT RESEARCH ABSTRACTS, Pearson Education Publisher, Boston, MA (ABSTRACT SUBMISSION DEADLINE, FEBRUARY 1, 2004), and have your student(s) present at least one research poster at next year's NSF Student Research Poster Symposium.
