Payroll

Alternate Work Schedules:

A schedule which is not Monday-Friday, 8 hours per day (40 hours per week) is considered an alternate schedule.  Alternate schedules also include compressed work weeks. One example is the "4/40" schedule, wherein an employee works four days a week, ten hours a day (e.g., Monday through Thursday 7 AM – 6 PM).  Shift work is not considered an alternate work schedule.

All salaried, non-exempt employees are paid for a standard number of hours per pay period (168 hours if 21 work days or 176 hours if 22 work days).  Employees on alternate work schedules may actually work the same number of hours for which they are paid, or they may work more or less hours.  SOLAR Absence Management automatically calculates the number of hours an employee works over or under the standard schedule per pay period. This calculation is referred to as Excess Plus/Minus.

The Payroll staff generate payments for overages (Excess Plus) after the end of each payroll cycle. Deficit hours (Excess Minus) are carried over to the following month(s)and debited from Excess Plus before Excess Plus is paid.
