If you're a student who is a part of the California Work Opportunities and Responsibility to Kids (CalWORKs) or Greater Avenues for Independence (GAIN) programs, our faculty and staff across the campus are here to provide any information you need. We're dedicated to your success!
Plan a visit
The CalWORKs/GAIN Liaison provides support and assistance, so that you may meet compliance requirements with the Los Angeles County Department of Social Services. Your CalWORKs/Gain campus liaison, Samantha Gonzalez, is available to meet with you to answer questions and assist with paperwork. To schedule an appointment, please send an email to finaid.gain@csun.edu. Make sure your subject line is "Request for GAIN Program appointment".
Before your scheduled visit, please complete the following steps:
- Contact your case worker for a GN 6005 or GN 6006 form or another agency document that'll serve as an appropriate appointment referral.
- Contact your major's department to request an advisement appointment.
- Print out your current class schedule and bring a copy along with your student ID, to your scheduled appointment.
Forms
The following information will assist you in filling out the various forms associated with the CalWORKs/GAIN initiative at CSUN. Please review the instructions for each form carefully.
This form is to be used by the CalWORKs/GAIN participant when referred to the CalWORKs/GAIN liaison staff by the Department of Public Social Services (DPSS) CalWORKs/GAIN caseworker/director at the referring community college program. Please follow the steps below:
- Download the Student information form
- Complete the student demographic section of the form and take it to your initial contact meeting with the CSUN CalWORKs/GAIN liaison, Samantha Gonzalez.
- If you are unsure about a response, leave it blank and discuss it with Samantha Gonzalez during your initial meeting.
- Sign the form and date it in the presence of the CSUN intake staff.
- Take your CSUN student ID to the first meeting.
This form is to be used by the CalWORKs/GAIN participant to request a reimbursement for books, fees, and supplies related to your program at CSUN. Please follow the steps below:
- Download the Book request form
- Complete the top portion, and indicate the term of the request (e.g., fall 2017).
- Fill out the top portion of the form.
- Read the instructions and complete the remaining section of the form.
- Sign the form and date it in the presence of the CSUN CalWORKs/GAIN liaison.

Campus Space Reservations
If you’re planning to hold an activity or event on campus, you will need to reserve the location in advance through the Matador Involvement Center. Facilities include University Student Union, Plaza del Sol Performance Hall, athletic facilities, Magnolia Walk, Matador Square, Sierra Center, University Club and Valley Performing Arts Center. To make reservations, visit the Permits and Policies page and select the expandable Event Planning Permits and Policies tab for a list of relevant forms.
Event Planning
Your club or organization may plan various types of events and activities. To plan an event, check the procedures, obtain authorization, familiarize yourself with the university’s policies, reserve a facility and apply for required permits. Visit the Permits and Policies page and select the Event Planning Permits and Policies section for more information.
Marketing and Advertising

Prospective Students
Outstanding Graduating Senior Award
Each year four graduating seniors are presented with the Outstanding Graduating Senior Award in recognition of academic excellence, contributions to campus and community, and exceptional achievements or personal life circumstances that have been overcome. These $2,000 awards are funded by the Alumni Association, the University Foundation, and the Karen, Leon & Reta Goldstein-Saulter Memorial Fund. Each recipient will be presented at the annual Honors Convocation ceremony which this year is at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2020.
To be eligible, a student must have a degree award date of Fall 2019, Spring 2020 or Summer 2020. Only students with a minimum GPA of 3.0, either cumulative or in the last 60 units, will be considered. Students must complete the Application Form, including a Statement of Qualifications, and submit two letters of recommendation from faculty, staff or administrators. At least one of the recommendations must be from a member of the Cal State Northridge faculty.
