CSUN is thrilled to welcome the inaugural cohort of dance-teacher candidates to campus, with new students enrolled in the Single Subject Dance Credential program. Both veteran and novice teachers comprise the cohort, as CSUN works to build and support a new generation of credentialed dance educators in California. Guided by the California Arts Standards, these educators are developing pedagogical practices rooted in equity, relationality, and creative expression, to engage their K-12 students deeply and authentically with dance.
With the passage of Proposition 28—the largest investment in arts education in our nation’s history—CSUN has seized the opportunity to make great strides towards equity in the field of dance and arts education with this new credential program.
The heart of the program is the dance “methods” class (SED 525D), offered this fall by Dr. Lindsay Lindberg. SED 525D positions dance education as a tool through which educators and students can make sense of themselves and others, and aims to build a brighter future for our students through dance and community.
SED 525D is also available for credentialed multiple or single subject teachers seeking to add an authorization for dance.
