An art major at Cal State Northridge excited about new marijuana laws — changing possession of small amounts of pot from a felony to misdemeanor — was the first to tinker with the sign in 1976. Danny Finegood sold merch of his art project (for which he received an A) through ads in High Times. “Weed” would reappear several more times in the coming years.
