During his time as a student at California State University, Northridge, Jones landed a job as a weekend newscaster. Driving home from work, he realized radio “was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.” He talks about a former colleague who left the radio biz to sell Xerox machines. When he heard from the person later, he asked Jones if he’d like to buy a machine. Jones turned him down. At the same time, his heart went out to him. The radio guy-turned-salesman didn’t seem fulfilled.
