Dr. Ocampo Uria was born in Colombia in 1955. She emigrated to the United States in 1970 and pursued a degree in geology at California State University, Los Angeles. She then earned a Master of Science in planetary geology from California State University, Northridge, and a Ph.D. in planetary geology from the Vrije Universiteit in the Netherlands.
