You should not be surprised to learn that Louisiana's lax laws governing payday lending (and its weak enforcement of existing laws) have led to an explosion of storefront lending offices around the state. In fact, a study by researchers at California State University Northridge concluded that Louisiana has more than 1,000 payday lending locations. Put another way, Louisiana has about 700 more payday loan offices than it has McDonald's franchises.
