New owners take over bookstore in Washington County hillside

Nichols, a graphic designer, learned about the property by chance while scrolling through Facebook. She sent the listing to her husband almost as a joke. The couple was established in L.A., where Nichols, 34, grew up. Kufs, 43, a Long Island native, lived in L.A. for 20 years. They owned a home and Kufs was working as a musician and an adjunct English professor at California State University Northridge. If not for the pandemic, the couple might have kept to the path they were on, but the upheaval led them to re-evaluate their lives. Nichols left her job in 2018 and was working on a degree in library science. Kufs wondered how long he could continue to be an adjunct in the hopes of finding a job as a full-time professor, or if he finished his Ph.D., if he would end up with a job in a place he didn't want to be.
