Self-care and social justice

April 11, 2022

Dear COE Community,

This week, our College of Education staff and faculty can attend two great presentations addressing the intersectionality between self-care and social justice. THIS Tuesday, April 12, 2022 from 3:30pm-5:00pm we have the opportunity to attend a virtual presentation A Time to Reflect: Embodied Mindfulness During Complex Times with Rhonda Magee, J.D.  Rhonda Magee, law professor at UC Berkeley, is an expert on mindfulness and how it supports our social justice work. In her book titled, The Inner Work of Racial Justice: Healing Ourselves and Transforming Our Communities Through Mindfulness, she states, “It is only by healing from injustices and dissolving our personal barriers to connection that we develop the ability to view others with compassion and to live in community with people of vastly different backgrounds and viewpoints.” Dr. McGee will offer practices and reflections that will support us in deepening our ability to work together across a range of diverse perspectives and help alleviate the suffering we all face in the social and political worlds.

See flyer attached and  Read more to register PLEASE SHARE WITH STUDENTS AND COMMUNITY PARTNERS!

Faculty can also attend our next College of Education Social Justice Presentation and Dialogue with Wendy Ashley THIS Wednesday, April 13, 11:00am-1:00pm. The COE Equity and Faculty Affairs Committee, in partnership with the COE membership in the CSU Center for Transformational Educator Preparation Programs (CTEPP), will offer the final in a series of 3 social justice presentations with dialogue with the presenter immediately following to discuss implications of information shared for our curriculum and programs. Work by Dr. Asley, Professor and Associate Chair of the Social Work Department at CSUN, focuses on relational challenges (with self, family, work and others), trauma treatment, anti-oppressive practices and identity struggles. Please register for this excellent presentation! Registration  https://tinyurl.com/3xyhkpxm
