Transfer Student Week 2021 Recap

November 7, 2021

Last October 18-22, the Badge Project and the Transfer Student Alliance (TSA) celebrated National Transfer Student Week both on-campus and virtually. This was CSUN’s first ever celebration of the nationwide event.

The Badge Project is part of the Health Equity Research and Education (HERE) Center’s project that aims to support transfer students in professional development, research resources, and community building.

The event kicked off on October 18th with President Erica Beck’s message to all transfer students, highlighting the importance of the CSUN transfer student population on campus.

“I want you to know that transfer pathways are an essential part of our mission to make college an equitable experience for all who seek it,” Beck said.

All throughout the week, the START Office, TSA, and HERE Center social media shared the Badge Project peer mentor stories and transfer student highlights.

The on-campus Transfer Table event took place on the 19th and 20th, and students had the chance to play Transfer Trivia, win prizes, interact with the peer mentors, and take photos.

On the 21st, the “Our Transfer Journeys” panel was held, where panelists Ashley Kuhnley, Phuong Nguyen, Alina Adamian, Caroline Plaza, and Joseluz Sosaall current and former CSUN transfer studentsshared their stories of struggle, resilience and strength.

“Everything being remote for the past two years—that is the life of a transfer student.  So, for all the students out there, this whole remote experience we’ve been having? This is how it feels to be a transfer student,” Sosa said. “So, it’s been really powerful to find a group that advocates for us [here at CSUN].

”To the wrap up the week-long event, the Transfer Mixer and Game Night were held on the 22ndto let CSUN transfer students meet with and mingle with their transfer student fellows.

This year was the first time the Badge Project and the Transfer Student Alliance collaborated to celebrate Transfer Student Week at CSUN. All three organizations look forward to more opportunities for transfer students to share their voices in the future.
