Dr. Torres’ keynote address will explore the various ways that serving Latinx students can be enhanced by understanding the intersectionality between campus environment, learning processes, and students’ cultural identities. Using research from various disciplines the presentation will explore how faculty, staff, and peers influence the success of Latinx students within higher education.

Dr. Vasti Torres is a professor in the Center for the Study of Higher and Postsecondary Education and an associate faculty member of Latina/o Studies at University of Michigan and is well known for her work on how the identity development of Latinx students can influence their college experience. Her research focuses broadly on the success of underrepresented students in higher education and she currently teaches on access issues with an emphasis on Hispanic-Serving Institutions. She has extensive administrative leadership experience and has also been the Principal Investigator for several grants including a multi-year grant investigating the choice to stay in college for Latino students.
