AS Presents Campus Conversations with CSUN President Erika D. Beck and AS President Jonathan Hay | September 30

The campus community is invited to a conversation with the university President, Erika D. Beck and the AS President, Jonathan Hay on such topics as Global Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) Equity Innovation Hub including the development of more identity-based resource centers on campus. The conversation will be followed by a Q&A section. You can submit your questions in advance using the registration form. Registration is required for this event.

Center for Teaching & Learning Presents Education on the Edge: Neurodiversity in Action with Barry M. Prizant | September 30

The Michael D Eisner College of Education’s Center for Teaching & Learning is proud to offer another amazing presentation from the Education on the Edge speaker series.

Dr. Barry Prizant will be presenting virtually on September 30 at 7:00 p.m. for one hour. Zoom link will be available on the CTL website at www.csun.edu/ctl.

Dr. Barry M. Prizant is among the world’s leading authorities on autism, and is recognized as an innovator of respectful, person- and family-centered approaches for individuals with autism and neurodevelopmental disabilities. With close to fifty years of experience as a scholar, researcher, and international consultant, he is an adjunct professor at Brown University, a certified speech-language pathologist, and director of Childhood Communication Services, a private practice. Barry is co-author of The SCERTS Model: A Comprehensive Educational Approach, now being implemented in more than a dozen countries. He has published four books, more than 130 articles and chapters and has received many awards, including the Honors of the American-Speech-Language-Hearing Association (their highest recognition), the Princeton University Eden Foundation career award in autism and the "Divine Neurotypical Award" of GRASP, the world's largest autistic self-advocacy organization. His most recent book is Uniquely Human: A Different Way of Seeing Autism (Simon & Schuster), winner of the 2017 Autism Society of America’s Temple Grandin Award for Outstanding Literary Work.

Meet Our Guest Speakers:

RAMÓN GARCÍA | Poet, Scholar, Professor

CSUN Chicana/o Studies Professor Ramón García is the author of two books of poetry The Chronicles and Other Countries and a monograph on the artist Ricardo Valverde.

The Chronicles was a finalist for the Latino International Book Award for Best Poetry Book in English in 2016. García was born in Colima, Mexico and grew up in Modesto, California. He earned a B.A. in World Literature from the University of California, Santa Cruz and a Ph.D. in Literature from the University of California, San Diego.

 

BYRON GONZALEZ | 88.5 FM DJ

CSUN Alum Byron Gonzalez brings us some of the freshest music from artists all over the world with roots in Latin America, Spain and Brazil. Catch Byron on 88.5 FM for his show called Bilingual Sounds, which is on every Wednesday at 9PM. He curates an eclectic mix of music exploring the many facets of rock, folk, hip-hop, electronic, cumbia and traditional Latin sounds.

Byron was born in Guatemala City and raised in Los Angeles. He started to pursue radio broadcasting during his time at Santa Monica College. This decision sparked a passion to further his education at CSUN as a Journalism major. Soon after graduating, Byron accepted the role of Brand manager of 88.5 FM's Latin Alt HD3 station. He is also a Latin Roots correspondent for NPR's World Cafe program, crafting the "World Cafe Best New LatinX Playlist" on Spotify.

This program calls us to acknowledge our power and position as communities in an occupied land while learning to honor indigenous sovereignty. Join us for an exciting program focused on unlearning colonial ideologies
and moving towards anti-racism framework.

This event welcomes all Matadors to gather together and shift their paradigm while engaging with their fellow peers in exploring anti-racist educational experiences.

Participate in the 2021 Great California ShakeOut! 10:21 a.m. | October 21

CSUN will be participating in the Great ShakeOut Drill to support earthquake preparedness. Join millions of people worldwide and practice how to Drop, Cover, and Hold On at 10:21 a.m. on Thursday, October 21, 2021.

CSUN's Department of Police Services will be conducting a test of the campus Alertus and Informacast Emergency Notification Systems in conjunction with the Great Shake Out. The messages will clearly state that this is a TEST only. Learn more about what to do during an earthquake and other emergencies in our Emergency Desk Reference.

If you're working from home, it's a great time to review how you and your household would stay safe.

CSU Graduation Initiative 2025 Convening | October 22

Dear CSU Family,

A joint effort of Undergraduate Studies, the Office of Faculty Development, Academic Technology, and the Faculty Technology Center, the Engagement Conference seeks to inspire all CSUN faculty teaching in the online and hybrid environments by sharing innovation and practices that have worked in CSUN courses.

2021 Clery Act Annual Security Report and Annual Fire Safety Report

Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, the 2021 Annual Security Report (ASR) is now available for viewing at https://www.csun.edu/sites/default/files/clery-report.pdf . The ASR contains the current security and safety-related policy statements, emergency preparedness and evacuation information, crime prevention and sexual assault prevention information, and information about drug and alcohol prevention programming. The ASR also contains statistics of Clery crimes for California State University Northridge (CSUN) for 2018-2020. A paper copy of the ASR is available upon request by contacting the Department of Police Services, located at California State University Northridge, 9222 Darby Avenue, Northridge, CA 91330-8282.

Pursuant to the Higher Education Opportunity Act, the 2021 Annual Fire Safety Report (AFSR) is now available for viewing at https://www.csun.edu/sites/default/files/Annual-Fire-Safety-Report.pdf . The purpose of this report is to disclose statistics for fires that occurred within California State University Northridge (CSUN) housing facilities for 2018-2020, and to distribute fire safety policies and procedures intended to promote safety on campus. A paper copy of the AFSR is available upon request by contacting the Housing Office located at 17950 Lassen St., Northridge, CA 91325, or by calling (818) 677-6116.

Faculty Technology Center Opens Faculty Tech Pantry | Checkout Equipment Needed to Create Engaging and Immersive Course Content

The Faculty Technology Center (FTC) has opened the Tech Pantry where faculty can find and use the equipment needed to create engaging and immersive content for their courses, including art and graphic design, innovative lecture recordings, immersive video experiences, and more!

Current faculty and staff that have graduated from CSUN are invited to join and engage with the "Home Grown" community on campus.

The Homegrown committee has put together a Fall Calendar with a mixture of in-person and virtual activities that will allow members to see the dates, times, and events in advance to plan accordingly. Please check the calendar frequently as meetings and events are subject to change. 

Please Note: We have included our internal meetings as part of the calendar in the event a member would like to join our committee planning meetings to assist with upcoming events. If you would like to attend a committee meeting please email tiana.mason@csun.edu in advance.

Use the RSVP link to register for meetings and events you wish to attend. Once you select your dates we will receive your confirmation and hold your spot. For virtual meetings, a Zoom link will follow two days prior. For in-person events, we will be in communication with you and provide details surrounding the event. You may go back to the same RSVP link at any time to change/update your attendance.
