Thornton has been a teacher in the Los Angeles Unified School District for 12 years. During that time, she also held various coordinator positions, overseeing several programs such as Title I, Targeted Student Populations, Intervention, and GATE. "Her vast experience will be an asset as she enters administration," according to the LEUSD. Thornton holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Child Development from California State University, Northridge, and a Master of Arts degree in Education from Pepperdine University.
