PRESIDENT BECK'S 100-DAY LISTENING TOUR REPORT
The President’s Listening Tour report includes an overview of the themes that emerged in President Beck’s first 100 days of listening and learning, as well as some of her initial reflections.
Letter From The President:
100-Day Listening Report
As a core value, I believe in leading through listening, and over the course of thousands of conversations in these first 100 days, I have seen incontrovertible evidence of what makes CSUN such a special place.
100-Day Listening Report
Standing in Our Values of Equity, Inclusion, and Justice
Across every corner of the university, I heard a singular commitment to serving a richly diverse student population across every dimension of identity and lived experience and a deep pride in CSUN’s history of advancing racial and social justice.
A Clear Commitment to the Overall Success of Our Students
Throughout my discussions on campus, I heard an unwavering commitment to our students and their success. I heard about the teaching and learning exchange in our classrooms, labs, studios, and distributed throughout the campus that have led to greater student engagement.
A Solid Foundation
of Academic Excellence
My conversations with the faculty, staff, students, alumni, and community members were replete with reflections on the extraordinary quality of our academic programs, research, scholarly, and creative endeavors.
OF ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE
Shaping Our Culture
and Fostering Community
Another theme I heard throughout our conversations centered on a profound sense of community and esprit de corps. I saw many instances of colleagues celebrating the good work of their peers and showing up to support one another in challenging times.
AND FOSTERING COMMUNITY
Disruptive
Thinking
In every corner of the campus and in celebration of colleagues, in pedagogical approaches, in our research and scholarly activities, and in the pandemic pivot to virtual learning, I heard of the innovative and creative practices being implemented across the campus.
THINKING
Strengthening Community Connections
Another recurring theme revolves around the university’s outward facing reputation and deep connections with our external partners. There is a great sense of shared community and pride among everyone in the Matador community, including our alumni, donors, and community neighbors.
CONNECTIONS
Making Sense of Our
Dollars and Cents
As a quiet, yet consistent theme, I heard of CSUN’s strengths and challenges around our campus resources, physical infrastructure, spending priorities, and concerns about the long-term fiscal outlook for the campus and the state of California in a post-pandemic future.
DOLLARS AND CENTS
Finding Common Ground — Together
The creation of a unified vision is a course that I intend for us to chart, together. Your input over these 100 days of listening and learning are the foundational first steps in this process and have provided the focus of our efforts going forward.
