Jeffrey's master's research focused on the coexistence between the nine-banded armadillo (Dasypus novemcinctus) and the six-banded armadillo (Euphractus sexcinctus) in the southern Pantanal of Brazil. His research combined substrate/habitat sampling with remote camera trapping in an effort to understand how these two similar species were partitioning their niche.
Speaker Bio:
Jeffrey Esparza is a biologist and M.S. candidate in the Department of Biology at CSUN. He has a strong focus on ecology and conservation with extensive fieldwork experience in the South American Tropics. His research has taken him to the tropical rainforests of Ecuador and the tropical wetlands of Brazil. With a research focus on mammalian ecology, Jeffrey wishes to bring attention to the more unique and overlooked mammals by highlighting their ecological importance in their respective ecosystems.
