Political cartoonist to visit CSUN

Award-winning political cartoonist Stephanie McMillan will be at CSUN the week of Oct. 21 for a series of events, including an exhibit and speaking engagements.

McMillan currently has a daily comic strip Minimum Security, which is syndicated online at Universal Uclick’s gocomics.com. She also draws and self-syndicates a weekly editorial cartoon,Code Green. In addition to an exhibit and reception at CSUN's West Gallery on Monday from 5-7 p.m., she will be speaking to the Daily Sundial practicum at 9:30 a.m. on Monday in Manzanita 112. On Tuesday, she will participate in Campus Sustainability Day, speaking about "Capitalism Must Die! Our Planet is not Expendable," at 2 p.m. in the USU's Northridge Center. Wednesday she will give an artist lecture at 2:30 p.m. in the West Gallery.

McMillan graduated from Tisch School of the Arts at New York University in 1987 with a BFA in film, studying animation under Richard Protovin and John Canemaker. She received an award for her student film. In 1992 she was hired by the alt-newsweekly XS magazine/City Link as an editorial assistant and offered her first professional cartooning opportunity. In 1999 she began self-syndicating her cartoons, plus providing exclusive comic features and illustrations. Her work has appeared in hundreds of publications worldwide, from Iceland to Bangladesh to Canada to Saudi Arabia, including in the U.S. the Los Angeles Times, Daily Beast, South Florida Sun-Sentinel, Yes! Magazine, Comic Relief, Amarillo Globe-News, Funny Times, yahoo.com and the San Francisco Bay Guardian.
