The Eighth Annual Maurice Amado Foundation Lecture in Jewish Ethics
“Reading Noah's Ark in the Age of Climate Change: Jewish Stories on Gender, Disability, and the Politics of Survival”
JULIA WATTS BELSER, PH.D.
Associate Professor of Jewish Studies in the Department of Theology and Religious Studies, and Senior Research Fellow at the Berkley Center for Religion, Peace, and World Affairs, at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.
“In stories about Noah, his ark, the individuals who survive the flood, and those left behind, Jewish tradition reckons with questions of human hubris and survival. We will use these ancient Jewish texts along with testimony from contemporary disability communities to grapple with climate change and the question of whose lives we deem worth saving.”
