Biography
Alex Ojeda is a part-time faculty member in Criminology & Justice Studies at California State University at Northridge (CSUN), Director of CSUN's MOSAIC (Mentoring to Overcome Struggles and Inspire Courage) youth mentoring program and the Coordinator of Los Angeles Valley College's NextUp and Guardian Scholars Foster Youth programs. As an educator, artist, organizer and huehuetzonqui ("Aztec" drummer), Professor Ojeda has dedicated his efforts to providing counter-narratives for students of color who find themselves in a negative relationship with their educational experience. Professor Ojeda utilizes indigenous culture and philosophy to engage students in their learning processes while assisting in developing a sense of self. He has spent over a decade studying and researching Pre-Columbian thought and knowledge throughout Mexico, Central America and the U.S. while disseminating his findings to his community in the San Fernando Valley. Professor Ojeda holds a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education, a Master's Degree in Chicana/o Studies and a Doctoral Degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies.
