HHD Virtual Commencement Related Celebrations 2020
HHD Class of 2020 Welcome: Alumna Danielle Harris, MSHA
Danielle Harris graduated with her Master of Science in Health Administration (MSHA) in 2001 and is a manager in quality management for one of California’s newest Medicaid plans for the Department of Health and Human Services. She had planned speak at Commencement, but as it was postponed due to the pandemic, we are honored that she has provided this video address to our Class of 2020.
The CSUN virtual celebration honoring the 2019 and 2020 graduates featured messages of congratulations from CSUN President Dianne F. Harrison, Associated Students President Diana Vicente, Vice President for Student Affairs William Watkins and Vice President for Academic Affairs Mary Beth Walker along with a few surprise guests.
To honor and celebrate the Class of 2020, and to recognize the agility and dedication our graduating students put into play as we moved from in-person to virtual education mid-semester, the academic departments in the College of Health and Human Development want you to know about virtual celebration events for our graduates.

You have arrived at a significant waypoint on your journey through life. Completing a bachelor’s degree is a significant accomplishment! When the school year began last August, few of us could have ever imagined that we’d be celebrating your graduation “virtually” due to a statewide stay-at-home order.
As many of you know, the pomp & circumstance of the Cal State Northridge commencement festivities is unrivaled across the 23 campuses of the Cal State system. At CSUN we highly value visibly recognizing the accolades and accomplishments of your university degree. Please know this, the faculty & staff of the Department of Child and Adolescent Development are anxiously awaiting the opportunity to celebrate with you, in-person, once it becomes safe to do so.
Until then, I hope you enjoy this video montage of heartfelt well-wishes from your department faculty. We hope that these messages provide you some joy and a smile as you finish your final days as a Child and Adolescent Development student at CSUN. As you will witness in the video, your faculty deeply care about you and your success; and not only your success at CSUN, but your long-term success in all of life’s endeavors! We truly are inspired by you. You provide us optimism about the future of the field of child and adolescent development, and we know that you embody our department’s motto of “changing lives daily.”
W. David Wakefield, PhD | Professor & Chair | Department of Child and Adolescent Development
p.s. As a group, we had fun making this video and have a blooper reel to prove it. Check it out at: https://youtu.be/RN-EbbB97-Q. The department would like to thank the Events Committee (Drs. Meyer, Grote, Camacho & Moschetti) for shepherding this project to completion. We also extend our gratitude and special thanks to Mr. Ricky Corona, a music major and friend of CADV who volunteered his time and talents in the post-production editing process.
