COE Self-Care Activities Spring 2020 - Week 10

March 23, 2020

Dear faculty and staff,

Welcome to the virtual world of self-care! We must continue to pay attention to our well-being as staff, caretakers, and educators as we challenge ourselves to switch to virtual reality,  engage in helping so many others, and live with the unknown.  Josh Einhorn has identified a number of excellent resources to promote self-care through virtual means below. My gratitude goes to Josh and all of you as we take care of each other and ourselves right now.

Warmly,

Shari

Josh’s message:

Greetings MDECOE community:

I hope all are well, and staying safe and sound.

Self-care could not be more important during this time of unease.

I am providing some resources that can be availed on your computer while you are at home.

1)      Harvard Medical School published an article on “Coping with Coronavirus Anxiety”

2)      A free 20-minute “RAIN” meditation created by psychologist Dr. Tara Brach is available at

A description from the website:

The acronym RAIN – Recognize, Allow, Investigate, Nurture – guides us in bringing mindfulness and compassion to difficult emotions. With practice, we can find our way home to open-hearted presence in the midst of whatever arises.

3)      Here is a great 11-minutes chair yoga session created for MDECOE by renowned yoga teacher Marydale Hahn: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v6NdUEzzhsw

4)      Self care apps include:

Insight Timer  With beautiful Tibetan singing bowls and a dynamic worldwide meditation community, Insight Timer is the fun, connected way to support your meditation practice. View others meditating with you all over the world. Guided meditation practices available. Available for iPhone, Android, and iPad.

Pocket Yoga  Practice yoga anywhere at any time with this easy to use app. Available for iPhone, iPad, Mac, Android, and Windows 8.
