San Diego Padres Daily Farm Report: May 31

Prospect Watch: El Paso went down at home against Tacoma despite the top four hitters in the lineup all likely to be hitting in San Diego at some point soon. … Franchy Cordero started his rehab assignment and singled in five at-bats Friday night. Cordero is wearing a brace on his right elbow at the plate and as Jeff Sanders of the Union-Tribune reported, it might be a permanent fixture. … Jose Pirela also began a rehab assignment and homered in his final at-bat. The utility man is recovering from an oblique strain. … On the mound, Jerry Keel struggled and took the loss. The lefty allowed a pair of homers and coughed up six earned runs. The former Cal-State Northridge hurler had a rough May, as he posted a 7.50 ERA and allowed six homers in 30 innings. … Andres Muñoz recorded four outs — two via strikeout Friday night. Muñoz’s dominance has continued in the PCL where the flame-throwing reliever had racked up eight strikeouts, while allowing just two hits in 5.1 scoreless innings. Overall, Muñoz has struck out 40 batters in 21 innings between Amarillo and El Paso in 2019.
