Last Friday’s match against Cal State Northridge was the Pyramid debut of a Taraflex floor, volleyball-specific and used extensively in international play. The artificial, mat-like surface, which cost around $100,000 according to 49ers head coach Alan Knipe, is far easier on the joints than hardwood, and it doesn’t punish a dive for a loose ball nearly as much.
