Are you a low-income, Latino, or a first-generation College of the Canyons student interested in Animation, Graphic Design, Business, Engineering, or Nursing?
Are you interested in transferring to California State University, Northridge (CSUN)?
If so, you can apply to be a part of "Creating Pathways/Abriendo Caminos". Funded by the U.S. Department of Education, this program is designed to increase the number of Latino and low-income students from College of the Canyons transferring to CSUN. Students will be prepared for upper division coursework and careers in high-demand fields through academic, professional, and personal development. This project assists students to identify a major early and create a roadmap, reducing time and finances at the community college for a successful and timely transfer for a BA or BS degree at CSUN.
Students admitted into the program will receive the following benefits:
- Individualized support of a PEER MENTOR during Freshman year at COC and Junior year at CSUN
- Career support services
- Tutoring support services
- Fully paid textbooks required for major courses. Students may also borrow electronic resources as well, such as laptops, tablets, and calculators
- Up to 20 Pathway Fellows per year are eligible to receive up to $2,000 in pay to work as an intern related to career choice following Freshman or Junior year
- Receive up to $250 in reimbursed cost per year to attend career and networking related events or workshops
- Receive compensation to work as a Peer Mentor, High School Outreach Ambassador, or Tutor during Sophomore or Senior year
All students admitted into our program agree to the following responsibilities*:
- Attend the orientation session in the Fall semester each year
- Meet with an Academic Advisor to develop an education plan and meet once per semester to review progress
- Meet with the Activity Director at least twice a semester to discuss your progress
- Participate in at least 2 mentorship activities, 2 career engagements, and 2 tutoring or writing consultations per semester
- Submit an Academic Progress Report (mid-semester)
- Maintain at least a 2.5 GPA or the GPA your major requires
