Understanding CSUN's Procurement Policy | February 20

Q.P.R. Suicide Prevention Training: Question, Persuade, Refer | February 21

Description:  Join University Counseling Services for Q.P.R., a 2 hour training designed to help you help someone who may be considering suicide. This training is facilitated by University Counseling Services.  QPR stands for Question, Persuade, and Refer.Faculty and staff are interacting with more students expressing symptoms of mental health concerns (e.g., anxiety, stress, depression, self-harm, and even suicidal thoughts, etc.).  This training helps prepare someone who is in the position to recognize someone who may be in crisis.  

The training is focused on signs of distress and crises, and "provides innovative, practical and proven suicide prevention training" and includes:

  • Raising awareness about suicide
  • Background information about suicide, with a focus on the college student population
  • Dispelling myths and misconceptions
  • Teaching 3 skills that can help save a life: Question, Persuade, Refer
  • University Counseling Services has received extremely positive feedback from the faculty and staff on campus who have participated in this training.  They report feeling more knowledgeable and better equipped to serve in a gatekeeping role -- how to recognize a student in distress, how to talk with them about their concerns, how to offer hope, and how to refer that student to get the help they may need.

Lunch Time Express

Every Monday through Wednesday, Starting  January 22, 2019

Description: The SRC offers several “Lunch Time Express” group exercise classes to all faculty and staff. These classes are free and do not require an SRC membership to participate. Come join SRC members on your lunch break every Monday through Wednesday from 10:30am-2:30pm this Spring semester (1/22/2019-5/19/2019) to pursue your wellness goals. This program is offered as part of the CSUN HR Professional Development program. How to Register for a Group Exercise Class Online:

STEP 1

Log in to your MINDBODY account with your chosen username and password on the SRC MINDBODY Online Portal.
Note: If you do not have a MINDBODY account, you will need to create an account on the SRC MINDBODY Online Portal and purchase a "SRC COMPLIMENTARY SERVICES" package for $0.00 before being able to sign-up for any classes. This package only needs to be purchased once through the lifetime of the account.

STEP 2

Choose a class from the schedule and click the “Sign Up Now” button. Online registration opens one day in advance and will close 10 minutes prior to the class start time. Only in-person registration will be accepted from that point at the Total Training Zone desk.

STEP 3

Pick up a GX class pass at the Total Training Zone desk as early as one hour before prior to your class start time to claim your registered spot.

Note: Failure to claim your pass 10 minutes prior to the class start time will result in you automatically forfeiting your registered spot and you will be required to wait in the stand-by line for potential remaining availability.

Commit to Be Fit

Every Monday through Thursday, Starting Thursday, January 31, 2019 - 5:00 pm to 6:20 pm

Spring 2019 Schedule

  • Orientation* (optional, but encouraged): Thu 1/31 from 5:30-6 p.m. in RE 200
  • Pre-Screening & Fitness Testing (required**): Mon 2/4 or Tue 2/5 (choose one) from 5:30-6:20 p.m. in RE 200
  • Exercise Program: Mon through Thu from 5:30-6:20 p.m. in RE 200 beginning Wed 2/6 and continuing through Thu 5/2. There will be no sessions during spring break.

*For those who would like semi-private training, all required paperwork must be received on or before the orientation date (1/31).

Description: Commit to Be Fit (CTBF) is a free fitness program for CSUN staff/faculty/students and community members. The program is led by CSUN Kinesiology students under the supervision of CSUN Kinesiology faculty.

The workouts consist of cutting edge and scientifically sound functional cardiovascular and resistance training aimed to get you in shape and help you FEEL YOUR BEST! CTBF is designed for all fitness levels and will expand your limits of strength, endurance, flexibility, balance, and cardiovascular health. Learn how to do activities in new ways—move more quickly, think faster, do what you never thought possible! Improved fitness improves your quality of life and makes your world bigger.

The program is offered four times per week during the fall and spring semesters and twice a week in the summer. In the fall and spring semesters, both semi-private* and group exercise options are available. In the summer, only the group option is offered.


 How often should you attend? You may attend as few as one and as many as four times per week. As you would expect, better results occur with more frequent and consistent workouts.

REQUIRED PAPERWORK

Each semester, participants must complete paperwork prior to participation. Download, complete, and bring the following forms to your first session. If you forget, don’t worry … we will have copies on hand of all of the forms.

  1. Participant Data Form (required; this is an electronic form, therefore you do not need to print it)
  2. Pre-Activity Screening Questionnaire (PASQ; required)
  3. Waiver of Liability form Summer 18 (required)
  4. Waiver of Liability form Fall 18 (required)
  5. Waiver of Liability form Spring 19 (required)
  6. Photo Release form (optional)
  7. Medical Clearance form (may or may not be required, see PASQ form)
