Getting Started and Planning Ahead: The core mission of all Writing Project sites is to improve writing and the teaching of writing by providing a broad array of programs, including professional development programs for teachers. In addition to the annual Invitational Summer Institute, we offer reasonably priced Saturday Seminars, Improving Student Academic Writing (ISAW) workshops, inquiry groups on a variety of topics, and a Write to Literacy Conference in October.

As we build our capacity here at the Cal State Northridge Writing Project, we hope to provide a further range of programs and activities targeted to the specific interests and needs of teachers in the greater Los Angeles area. These programs might include open-enrollment summer institutes, teacher nquiry groups, assessment workshops, emergent literacy programs, writing across the curriculum programs, support for new teachers, publications, national networking, retreats for teacher leaders, and on-site support. If you have particular needs or interests, please email us and let us know how our site might best serve you and your school or district.
