combines his award-winning documentary films with a dynamic speaking style that challenges audiences to question, reimagine, and redefine manhood and gender roles in the age of Trump. Hurt, a former college quarterback, has more than 20 years of experience navigating discussions about masculinity with high-profiled NCAA athletes, members of the U.S. military, fraternities, and everyday men and women across the world. He strengthened and honed his progressive gender politics while working with the Mentors in Violence Prevention Program (MVP), and pioneering the Bystander Intervention Program he co-founded with Jackson Katz, Ph.D., in which he has facilitated thousands of enlightening gender violence prevention trainings, and has hosted Q&Aʼs following screenings of his award-winning films. acclaimed documentary, Hip-Hop: Beyond Beats and Rhymes, remains as popular on college campuses today as it did when it premiered at the Sundance Film Festival
and it broadcast nationally on PBSʼ Emmy Award-winning series Independent Lens.
