The University Corporation - Facilities and Locations

Non-CSUN Film Students

For students of other universities who are looking to film at CSUN, we offer a budget-friendly discounted flat filming location fee of $500 for a 14-hour day. Please note there will also be additional fees for Direct costs (site rep, parking, and custodial) that will be charged as needed. We also require a $1000 security deposit that is refundable. Please see filming reservation process below for further details.

Non-CSUN Student Filming Requirements:

  1. Filming requests should be submitted a minimum of 2 weeks in advance of the desired filming date. Please note that filming is not permitted during the first two weeks of a semester.
  2. Location requests should be emailed to licensing@csun.edu and include a letter from the instructor detailing the class project as well as a copy of the student’s ID
  3. If the requested location(s) is available, University Licensing will:
    1. Contact the student to schedule a scout of the location
    2. Request a copy of the script for review.
    3. Submit proper insurance documents. Click here to view/download insurance guidelines and sample.
    4. Provide the student with an estimate of the filming costs and Licensing agreement that outlines the parameters of the film shoot and allowable use for the footage.
  4. If the student(s) agrees to the costs and terms, they must submit payment and the signed Licensing agreement prior to the shoot date.
  5. After the film shoot, University Licensing will reconcile all final costs and provide the student with a Final Cost letter.
    1. If all costs are within the amount of the estimate including the security deposit, University Licensing will send a refund check for the remaining unused funds.
    2. If the final filming cost is more than the estimate & security deposit, University Licensing will note the outstanding balance due on the Final Letter and provide a credit card authorization form for the student to complete in order to settle the account.
