The Bookstein Institute for Higher Education in Taxation at California State University, Northridge is proud to offer free tax workshops to residents and businesses of the Greater Los Angeles region. The goal of these workshops is to educate taxpayers about their rights and obligations under the federal tax code.
Who Do We Serve: The workshops are tailored to the needs of taxpayers, whether small business owners or consumers. We are particularly interested in serving and reaching out to the ESL community and to the low income residents of Los Angeles.
Type of Workshops: With adequate advanced notice, the workshops can be tailored to the specific needs of the audience in terms of content and length. Examples of the workshops that we facilitate include:
- Earned Income and the Child Tax Credit
- What You Need to Know When You Hire Employees or Use Contractors?
- Taxes after a Short Sale, Foreclosure or Loan Forgiveness
- What You Need to Know When You Run Your Business Out of Your Home?
- What You Need to Know about Federal Taxes and Your New Business?
The Instructors: The workshops are facilitated by trained undergraduate and graduate tax students who are trained by the IRS and supervised by a tax faculty member at California State University, Northridge. Location: The workshops may be offered on site of the community partner or at the campus of Cal State Northridge at no charge. The facilitators provide all the materials for the workshops.
