Dr. Vasti Torres is a professor in the Center for the Study of Higher and Postsecondary Education and an associate faculty member of Latina/o Studies at University of Michigan. Her research focuses broadly on the success of underrepresented students in higher education and she currently teaches on access issues with an emphasis on Hispanic-Serving Institutions.
Dr. Torres’ keynote address will explore the various ways that serving Latinx students can be enhanced by understanding the intersectionality between campus environment, learning processes, and students’ cultural identities. Using research from various disciplines, the presentation will explore how faculty, staff, and peers influence the success of Latinx students within higher education.

What Now? Handling Problem Behaviors in Your Classroom | April 10
CSUN faculty and staff are invited to join their colleagues for a panel of campus experts discussing ways to address problem behaviors in your classroom. Co-sponsored by CFA-Northridge. Lunch is included with your RSVP.

Student Success Data Workshop | April 18 & 20
Faculty and staff are invited to join us for an inquiry-based exploration of the institutional data tools available via the portal. Together, we'll navigate the data visualization tools that will help us to understand who our departments are serving, what our departments' strengths are, and what our departments' opportunities are for increasing equity in student outcomes.
The workshop will be facilitated by Kristy Michaud, Office of Student Success Innovations & Political Science, and Stefanie Drew, Faculty Development & Psychology. It will be offered twice, on the following dates:

The Staff Services & Recognition of Excellence Event planning committee is in need of musically talented staff to join our SSA Staff Band, to help make the celebration of CSUN's Staff Service Awards a special event on Wednesday, May 2, 2018. Volunteer roles include:
Way Finder/Greeter - Initial point of contact for guests to help navigate them to the venue
Diploma Cover Distributor - Provide students with diploma covers just prior to them walking on stage
Line Management - Guide the graduating students into their seats during the processional
Gate Supervisor - Back-up for ticket scanners who identify persons with invalid tickets and offer suggestions

Language, Speech and Hearing Center Offers Services Available to Faculty & Staff
The Language, Speech and Hearing Center, which is the clinical arm of the Department of Communication Disorders and Sciences, has numerous services available to CSUN faculty and staff, at a special discounted rate. In addition to speech therapy and audiology services, the Center also provides therapy for stuttering and voice (including vocal hygiene).
Voice Therapy Programs. Are you a professional voice user? Do you lecture, and count on your voice staying with you all day? Do you sing in a garage band or your church? Do you sometimes go home with a painful sore throat? You may benefit from a Vocal Hygiene program. You can learn how to use your voice optimally, and have power left over. Contact the Language, Speech and Hearing Center at lshc@csun.edu, or call 818-677-2856.
Avoidance-Reduction Therapy program for persons who stutter. Group meets Monday nights from 7-9 p.m. in Monterey Hall Room 100. Anyone interested can email the Language, Speech and Hearing Center at lshc@csun.edu, or call 818-677-2856 to enroll. This program is designed for adults, college age and older. Stutterers do not have to avoid speaking situations. In this program, stutterers learn how to approach speaking situations with a variety of useful techniques.

Teenage Drama Workshop 2018 | Applications Now Being Accepted
The award-winning Teenage Drama Workshop (TADW) offers teens (those going into 7th grade through those just graduating 12th grade) the opportunity to develop skills in the theatre arts in a six-week, conservatory-style, Summer program on the campus of California State University, Northridge. Applications are now open for the Summer 2018 Program.
This year's season runs June 11 thru July 22
