REFRAMING BILINGUAL EXPERIENCES
THROUGH THE FORMAL STUDY OF BILINGUALISM

This talk will present some key findings that recent research has revealed about the cognitive, emotional, academic, and social advantages of being bilingual. The talk reframes daily life's experiences of bilingual speakers in a broader sociolinguistic and psycholinguistic context of the study of bilingualism. The presenter will discuss her own experiences as a Catalan-Spanish bilingual to illustrate that bilingualism is a global concept, and that bilinguals' experiences around the world are very similar, both from a social and individual point of view, and can be explained with the same theoretical principles.
