Class Act: St. Petersburg, L.A. philharmonic concerts will showcase diverse repertoires

The following evening, Temirkanov and his band traverses the Southland’s freeways to Cal State Northridge’s Valley Performing Arts Center for performances of Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5 and Brahms’ Piano Concerto No. 1, with Garrick Ohlsson as soloist. The L.A. Phil, led by guest conductor Jaap van Zweden, is performing Shostakovich’s fifth this weekend, with a final performance today at Disney Hall.
