COE Self-Care Activities Week Eleven

April 18, 2016

Hi Staff and faculty,

We are in the last two weeks of self-care for this academic year, and a big thank you goes out to all of you for your support and participation of our self-care activities! Here is just a quick review of our spring semester together:

We had a fantastic presentation on spring gardening by Lisa Novick from the Theodore Payne Foundation for Wild Flowers and Native Plants with over 30 in attendance including staff and faculty from the COE and friends of the CSUN Sustainability Institute.

We had a great presentation by Jimmy Francis from the CSUN Student Recreation Center (SRC) about many activities available to faculty and staff on campus, and 40 faculty and staff participated in a raffle for 2 free semester passes to the SRC. The lucky winners were Mario Martinez and Susan Belgrad.

As a creative twist to self-care, we celebrated with Stan Charnofsky who is being inducted into the CSUN Athletic Hall of Fame for his years as CSUN's baseball coach in the 1960's. Stan shared great stories about his years in baseball and peanuts, caps, and stress "baseballs" were given out to over 35 faculty, staff, family, and friends in attendance!

Maria King dedicated herself as leader of our walking activity over the last semester with a small group of dedicated faculty and staff walkers. THE LAST WALKS OF THE SEMESTER WILL BE TODAY, APRIL 18TH and NEXT MONDAY, APRIL 25TH, BOTH FROM 12-1 AND STARTING IN ED 1218. LAST CHANCE TO SUPPORT MARIA AND ENJOY A BREAK WITH A LEASURELY WALK!

Our favorite dietitian Ellen Bauersfeld changed the way we think about healthy eating, and at least 40 different faculty and staff have attended her fun and fascinating talks over the last three semesters. She returns this Tuesday, April 19th, 12-1 in Ed 1214, FOR THE LAST SESSION ON NUTRITION THIS SEMESTER, SO DON'T MISS IT!!

Josh Einhorn brought a wonderful and creative spin to our weekly meditation sessions as a leader sharing this role with Diane Gehart, and as a result, at least 8 new faculty and staff joined these sessions in the last semester. JOSH WILL LEAD THE LAST 2 MEDITATION SESSIONS OF THE SEMESTER this week on Tuesday April 19th, and next Tuesday, April 26th, both held in the CTL conference room from 2-2:30.

Please continue to check our website for new information on self-care.

With gratitude for your commitment to self-care,
Shari
