Immigration: Art / Critique / Process

A two-day symposium on art and immigration organized by James Wiltgen, of the CalArts School of Critical Studies, and Beatriz Cortez, of the Department of Central American Studies at California State University, Northridge. Featuring artist presentations, film screenings, lectures and a series of Q&A sessions, the symposium examines the creative endeavor in multiple, simultaneous vectors of collective becoming, and the potentialities in our mutual entanglements and reciprocal imaginaries of the future. Also under examination are issues of biopolitics  and the impact of the climate crisis on global migration. Presenters include critical theorist Claire Colebrook; virtual reality and immersive journalism pioneer Nonny de la Peña; cultural critics and curators Kency Cornejo, Jennifer Doyle, Ruth Estévez, Michael Ned Holte, Ricardo Roque Baldovinos, Tyler Stallings and Pilar Tompkins Rivas; and artists Nao Bustamante, Rafa Esparza, Regina José Galindo, Harry Gamboa Jr., Louis Hock, Chico MacMurtrie, Ronald Morán, Yoshua Okón and Javier Toscano.
