Army ROTC scholarships come in several variations depending on the particular ROTC cadet. Graduating high school seniors can apply for a full four-year ROTC scholarship. However, students already enrolled in college can apply for a three-year or even a two-year ROTC scholarship. 

Scholarship cadets are able to attend college for little or no cost and at the same time benefit from the training and experience that ROTC programs provide.
 The only requirements to maintain the Army ROTC scholarship are participation in ROTC activities (ie. attending class, leadership lab and PT) , maintaining physical fitness standards, and being enrolled as a full-time student at the college of attendance.

 

The Army ROTC scholarship entitles its recipients to full-tuition assistance, as well as a textbook/fee allowance ($600 per semester) and a monthly stipend to cover the student’s living expenses. Typically, cadets receive the tuition assistance. However, they also have the option to apply the scholarship to their ‘room and board’ expenses instead of school tuition (up to $4,000). 

The amount that cadets on the ROTC scholarship receive for their monthly stipend depends on their year in school, as shown below:
 

• 1st: $300/month
• 2nd: $350/month
 
• 3rd: $450/month
 
• 4th: $500/month 

This allowance is also available to all non-scholarship cadets who are contracted and enrolled in the Army ROTC advanced course (3rd and 4th year).

Nursing Majors

Army ROTC program offers two, three, or four-year scholarships for undergraduate nursing students. Nursing students who are also Army ROTC Cadets can benefit from hands-on, unique nursing opportunities while receiving financial assistance for college. You will gain valuable leadership experience and management training that can benefit you in either a private-sector or military nursing career. 

Once you become an Army Nurse, you may apply for specialty courses such as:

• Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing - This 22-week course is designed to prepare you with the necessary knowledge of clinical skills to deliver care and treatment to psychiatric patients. Development of the qualities of understanding and compassion are stressed, along with proficiency in communications skills.

• Preoperative Nursing - This 16-week course is designed to prepare junior nurse officers to function as first-level staff nurses in the operating room (OR). It also focuses on the OR nurse's responsibilities in the preparation and sterilization of supplies/equipment; special fields of surgery; and the principles and techniques of supervision and management of the operating room.

• Obstetrical and Gynecological Nursing - This 16-week course is designed to provide you the necessary knowledge and clinical skills required to deliver nursing care to pregnant women, newborn infants and patients with gynecological problems.

• Critical Care Nursing - This 16-week course is designed to prepare nurses as entry-level critical care staff nurses in intensive care settings.

Nurse Summer Training Program (NSTP)

Nursing students who are also Army ROTC Cadets have an opportunity for a unique summer nursing experience. The paid, three-week Nurse Summer Training Program assigns Cadets to Army hospitals throughout the U.S. and Germany.

The nursing program introduces you to the Army Medical Department (AMEDD) and to the roles and responsibilities of an Army Nurse Corps Officer. Under the supervision of an experienced Army Nurse Corps Officer, you will obtain hands-on experience. Your one-on-one clinical experience will allow you to hone your clinical skills, develop your problem-solving techniques and become comfortable with developing your professional skills as a member of the U.S. Army Healthcare Team. STEM Scholarships

Students that are studying in the fields of Science, Math, Technology, or Engineering are eligible for the STEM scholarship.  These scholarships require a student to major in a STEM related field, but offer the same financial benefits as traditional Army ROTC Scholarships, including full tuition and fee or room and board payment, a lump sum for books and a monthly stipend.

To qualify for an ROTC scholarship, you must meet the following requirements:

• Be a United States citizen
• Be no older than 31 at the time of commission
• Possess a high school diploma, or equivalent
• Have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
• Be medically qualified through DODMERB
• Be able to pass the Army Combat Fitness Test with a minimum score of 60 points in every event (50 points for high school applicants).

Contracted cadets are obligated to 8 years of military service.  Upon college graduation, military service may be satisfied in any of the following ways:

• Serve 3 years on Active Duty, plus 5 years on Individual Ready Reserve
• Serve all 8 years on Active Duty
• Serve all 8 years on Reserve Forces Duty (for individuals that receive a Guaranteed Reserve Forces Duty scholarship or are assigned to the Army Reserve or Army National Guard when commissioned).
