The Magaram Center is committed to provide our students professionals with opportunities and tools for advancement in the fields of Nutrition and Dietetics and Food Science. The following is a list of the various jobs, scholarships and volunteer opportunities for students and those who meet the qualifications for application for these great sources of professional advancement and career development.

Student Opportunities

Volunteer  

  • Northridge Hospital Dietary Office 
    • Volunteer needs to commit for a minimum of 100 hours. A minimum of 1X per week (for 4 hours). 
      Duties may include; Special Projects including menu signage, creating menus, speaking with patients and educating them on their diet/foods they can select from, learning how dietary kitchen/cafeteria process works, and doing market research on pricing.   • Nutrition As Therapy
    • Nutrition As Therapy private practice group is looking for a nutrition student to help at their office for 2-3 months. At the end of the volunteering commitment, the student will be able to shadow the RDs. For more about this program, please click here.
  • Ojai Valley Community Hospital
    • Seeking students looking to gain volunteer experience interacting with patients. For more about this program, please click here.
  • Let's Grow Healthy!
    • Enrich LA’s School Gardens by teaching children and our community about the health benefits of sustainable gardening. For more about this program, please click here.
  • Los Robles Hospital & Medical Center
    • Are you looking for some experience in a hospital setting? Do you like to meet new people? We have a perfect opportunity for you to join our volunteers. Currently seeking help in our Acute Rehab Kitchen located in Westlake Village.

      Must apply through our volunteer program. Visit our hospital website at losrobleshospital.com under community resources, become a volunteer. The program requires 4 hours/week. For more specifics you can contact Heidi Fernandez directly by emailing Heidi.fernandez@hcahealthcare.com. Looking to fill Monday through Saturday mornings. The hours are a little flexible. Start anytime between 9:00am to 10:00am. Get a free lunch while you are here. You will be working directly with our Diet Aides and kitchen staff. Look forward to having you join our team!

    • The Student Assistant will be working on various MMC projects and programs. The Student Assistant may work with CSUN students, professionals, and the general public.   • Center for Discovery
    • The Diet Technician consults with the Registered Dietitian to ensure implementation of the best standard of nutrition and dietary services. Responsibilities include dietary support, grocery budget allocation, client menu planning, maintaining a clean and well stocked kitchen, cooking and baking as needed, and appropriately discerning between appropriate and inappropriate client eating behaviors. This experience will prepare you to be a Registered Dietitian with hands on experience, learning from dedicated professionals, and work. Click here for more information.

Student Work Opportunities

  • Senior Congregate Menu Consultant 

    • Review new menus and classify categories such as calories per serving, per item, per meal, per day. Contact (mledesma@ nhfca.org) for more information.

  • Power Brands 

    • We are looking for enthusiastic interns who are eager to learn and grow within the company! Interns will provide product development support for our Research and Development Department. Upon hiring, all duties will be assigned by the Internship Coordinators. For more information, click here.

      • Are you looking for a Community Nutrition experience to work towards your Dietetic Internship goals? Teach Nutrition Classes to the senior community!

    Full-time
    At least one-year clinical experience as a Registered Dietitian. Current certification by the Commission of Dietetic Registration. Competency in food service management, child health, and the ability to work with children and adults. Experience with ChildPlus system (desired). Bilingual (Spanish) preferred. Flexibility and availability in order to meet program needs. Must have driver's license and transportation to travel to program sites as needed.

    The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, through its many association groups, offers a variety of scholarships and educational stipends to individuals pursuing undergraduate and advanced degrees in dietetics or food and nutrition related areas. General scholarship and educational stipend information from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation, the dietetic practice groups and affiliate (state) and district dietetic associations can be accessed from the respective group's information listed on this site.
