When self-quarantine measures hit Los Angeles, CSUN Opera was ever so close to mounting a late-season performance in Nordhoff Hall’s Little Theatre. The ensemble had spent months feverishly preparing two one-acts, Giuseppe Gazzaniga’s fast-paced take on Don Giovanni and Giacomo Puccini’s tragic Suor Angelica. After all those rehearsals, CSUN Opera wasn’t about to let their hard work die on the vine, so the musicians and singers remotely recorded their parts for music director Mercedes Juan Musotto, who painstakingly synched and edited them to debut online. Please enjoy the two videos completed so far, and watch Musotto’s YouTube channel, as she has promised more to come!
Don Giovanni
This duet between Edris Foroughi and Agneze Gallenzi captures the native humor of Gazzaniga’s Don Giovanni as manservant Pasquariello gleefully outs his master’s philandering ways to spurned lover Donna Elvira.
Suor Angelica
In the Finale of Suor Angelica, the titular protagonist has resolved to end her life with poison after hearing of her son’s death.
