Department welcomes new students for Fall 2019

August 16, 2019

CSUN’s Journalism Department will host its pre-semester welcome event, Tuesday, Aug. 20, in Manzanita Hall 361. The goal is to smooth the transition for incoming freshmen and transfer students, said Linda Bowen, department chair.

The event will help new Journalism majors acclimate to the program, informing them on the department’s various events, student resources, clubs and an overview on its redesigned curriculum. Incoming students will also have the opportunity to participate in a meet-and-greet with Journalism professors and leaders of student clubs.

Admission is free for first-time freshmen and new transfer students. Students can RSVP through the invitation sent to their CSUN student email.

The welcome event also will introduce several department events scheduled for the Fall 2019 semester, including:

  • Banned Books Week: 1-3 p.m. Sept. 19 in the Ferman Presentation Room. This year’s theme is “Comedy and Censorship: Why Do We Fear the Funny?” coordinated by Dr. Liz Blakey.
  • Society of Professional Journalism Speed Mentoring: Oct. 2 Ferman Presentation Room. Co-sponsored by the Journalism Alumni Association and coordinated by Dr. Stephanie Bluestein.
  • CSUN High School Journalism Day: Oct. 19, Manzanita and Nordhoff Hall, coordinated by Prof. Daniela Gerson and staff member/Journalism alumnus Leonardo Ibarra.
